A clear Sunday morning with no signs of rain to cloud a rider’s mind. Here we were at Princep Ghat, the rendezvous point for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and also the starting point of placing Kolkata on the motorcycling events world map.
Bikes and their respective riders started gathering at the point by 8:30am and after a brief while of biker camaraderie, the ride was flagged off at 9am sharp.
All the riders looked dapper- formal shirt and tie, trousers and the right shoe to go with it. Some even wore suits and vests to further the feeling of a true gentleman.
The whole idea of adorning a gentleman’s attire and also to act like it on the bikes is to make people aware of prostate cancer and also, here lies an ulterior motive of uplifting the image of a biker, in the eyes of an average joe, from a hooligan to that of a lifestyle which is pursued with much panache, undeniably like that of a gentleman.
The ride commenced from Princep Ghat moving onto Fairlee place and then to red road and subsequently hitting the AJC flyover. And then the riders continued towards E.M. Bypass bridge to head towards Salt Lake via Science City.
The route followed through the Nicco Park flyover and then finally towards City Centre, Salt Lake.
If you were one of those people who were gazing, almost awe-inspired, at a group of 30 something riders dressed like gentlemen through the roads this past Sunday, then indeed these were The Distinguished Gentlemen Riding through the street of Kolkata.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride will be conducted in over 400+ cities all across the continents.
Here’s looking forward to more and more riders in and around Kolkata to join us for the honourable cause in the forthcoming DGR events.
