Kolkata Gate has taken the city by storm and everyone wants to know when this product of architectural brilliance will finally open to the public of Kolkata. After much speculations, we are glad to say that we have the answer! HIDCO (Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation) has announced that they will the Kolkata Gate, only one of its kind in eastern India, will be open by Poila Boisakh, also known as, the Bengali New Year.
What is the Kolkata Gate, you ask?
Well, if you don’t know about the Kolkata Gate by now, you must have been living under a rock. But here’s a quick summary if you are not aware of what it is – Kolkata Gate at New Town is a mammoth construction of 70 tons of steel at a cost of INR 25 crore.
This gate will be about 55 meters in height and the restaurant will be at a height of 25 meters.
The tunnel on the Gate will be decorated with several photographs of representing Bengal’s culture while the outer part of the entire tunnel will be covered with light. The central part will be the logo of Biswa Banga.
Hanging restaurant on top?
Did you know that there is going to be a hanging restaurant on top of the Kolkata Gate? In this first ever hanging restaurant in New Town, you can dine with a 360 degree view of Rajarhat.
The Oval Lounge restaurant is perched on the 55 metre high Kolkata Gate at Rabindra Tirtha in New Town.
We are not sure about the cuisine that will be available there, but we think it is safe to assume that Chinese and North Indian will surely be a part of it due to popular demand!
Another wonder in the City of Joy
The Gate, complete with the Biswa Bangla logo, has been constructed to greet those coming to the city from the airport.
The structure will add another feather in Kolkata’s cap. A splendid view awaits those who would visit the viewers’ gallery, giving a clear sight of New Town and its neighbourhood.
